General Chemistry Lab

The Medicinal Chemistry Lab aims to introduce first-stage students to the basics of medical chemistry and the most important aspects it deals with in practice, knowledge of how to prepare liquid and solid solutions, the study of titration, and the detection or diagnosis of biological molecules such as sugars, proteins and fats. Fundamentals of organic chemistry (a study of the physical constants of organic compounds, such as the melting point and boiling point, in addition to the crystallization process, etc., as well as how to diagnose organic compounds and distinguish compounds from each other.

Molecular Biology and Immunology Laboratory

Molecular biology studies biology at the molecular level, so it overlaps with both microbiology and chemistry in several branches and intersects with biochemistry and genetics in several areas and disciplines. Molecular biology is concerned with studying the various interrelationships between all cellular systems, especially the relationships between DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (RNA) and the process of protein synthesis, in addition to the mechanisms that regulate this process and all biological processes. In addition to familiarity with the foundations of immunology, genetics, immunological tests, methods of performance, and high technology in order to reach the most accurate results, the student also gets to know at the end of the school stage the parts of the immune system and its work and how diseases are resisted in the body. The student will be familiar with making laboratory tools and how to deal with laboratory samples that are submitted to the serology or serology laboratory.

Biochemistry Lab

This section is concerned with conducting analyzes for the detection of the effectiveness of body organs in performing their various functions and the chemicals present in body fluids, especially blood, and all these substances are in fixed proportions and any difference in these ratios has a satisfactory connotation.

Histopathology and Pathology Laboratory

To build a basic knowledge of human body histology, and an understanding of normal human tissues, which are essential in some medical applications required in the specialty of medical laboratory techniques. Histology is the microscopic study of tissues and cells whose techniques produce visual images that are a true blend of art and science. The histology laboratory is one of the primary laboratories in the Medical Laboratory Techniques department.

The most important laboratory experiments:

  • Tissue processing and paraffin incorporation.
  • Cut samples after combining them with wax.
  • Chopping frozen samples.
  • Staining of samples with hematoxylin and eosin stain.
  • Staining of samples with immunohistochemistry.
  • Digital scanning of microscopic slides and digital microscopy with high quality.
  • Histological image analysis.
  • Training in basic techniques in histology.


Physiological and hematology laboratory

The Physiological Laboratory of Hematology gives the student specialized lessons for many diseases related to blood, whether they are physiological, hereditary, parasitic, or arising from microorganisms. The subject of hematology as a tissue and as a more specialized subject is also taught in it, and it is taught under the supervision of professors who hold masters and doctoral degrees. Continuous development in the teaching of medical physiology using modern educational methods to form a solid foundation therein for the acquisition of future clinical, scientific and research skills. The laboratory aims to teach physiotherapy materials practically and by using modern educational methods to prepare the student for future clinical and research study and focus on special research activities to find solutions to health problems in Iraqi society.

Laboratory of Microbiology, Viruses and Fungi

It is one of the most important laboratories affiliated with the Basic Sciences Branch that specializes in practical training for students in microbiology. It is equipped with the latest laboratory devices. The laboratory can accommodate 35 students. The students are trained by specialized professors and it contains all the equipment and supplies necessary to achieve the objectives of microbiology within the college curriculum. The college student needs to understand the nursing sciences major. In it, students learn the processes of planting and developing fungi and bacteria farms, and how to sterilize, disinfect and diagnose. It also introduces students to the types of pathogenic bacteria, methods of diagnosis, treatment processes, means of prevention, and microscopic and laboratory examinations.

Anatomy and Histology Laboratory

In it, students learn about the basic structure of body cells, normal and pathological general tissues, processes of laboratory staining of samples, examination and comparison of normal tissues with pathological tissues through the study of physiological pathology and histopathology, and the laboratory is supervised by qualified professors with master’s and doctoral degrees.

Medical Parasitology Laboratory

The Parasitology Laboratory is concerned with studying parasitic organisms of various types, causes of infection, diseases and methods of diagnosis, whether they are blood parasites, urinary or digestive parasites, and other parasites.

Human Biology Laboratory

Laboratory vision:
The department works to clarify the vision of familiarizing the students of the Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques with basic information in basic medical sciences, especially human biology as a cornerstone in understanding other clinical medical sciences.

Objectives of the laboratory: The laboratory aims to introduce the student to the history of biology, its classification, structure, physiology, growth, study of the cell and tissues and their anatomy, the formation of the cell and the stages of its division, and conducting the practical side of it, using laboratory methods, including preparing slides and examining them under the microscope, to give sufficient information about the types of organisms and studied in detail
