The Farahidi Center for Medical Research was established in 2021 at the University of Farahidi. The center began its operations under the direction of Dr. Mustafa Jawad Al-Ghazi. This establishment was a pressing need for the development of medical diagnostics and dentistry research in all its aspects at the university's research level. The center features specialized scientific laboratories in the field of medical diagnostics and dentistry, equipped with the latest laboratory equipment for conducting applied scientific research that contributes to solving the problems faced by the community in this specialization. Additionally, it possesses an animal house and a scientific plant garden. One of the center's interests is to keep pace with developments in biological technologies, transfer, develop, and localize them in Iraq. The center also works on establishing biological safety and security regulations, providing training and development opportunities for its staff, and building scientific and research cooperation with similar research centers inside and outside Iraq. The center annually organizes various training courses, seminars, and scientific workshops for its members, universities, and other ministries to enhance their scientific and technical capabilities.
Since the establishment of the Farahidi Center for Medical Research, the scientific vision has been for the center to serve as an institution for research and development, a technical knowledge hub to utilize scientific knowledge in medical diagnostics in all its branches, and in the fields of dentistry to contribute to sustainable development in Iraq and our regional surroundings. The center's goals include contributing to innovation and intellectual creativity in research and studies, disseminating scientific knowledge and expertise in society, and providing scientific support to educational and industrial institutions. To achieve the center's scientific vision and mission, it has been structured to include a group of research units, as follows: Department of Medical Diagnostics. Digital Dentistry Department (CAD CAM). Laser Research Department. Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) Imaging Department.
The center's mission involves planning and executing academic and applied scientific research in the field of medical diagnostics and dentistry. This is achieved through various training courses in the specialties of medical diagnostics and dentistry, as well as by organizing seminars and scientific workshops for the center's staff, universities, and other ministries to enhance their scientific and technical capabilities. The center's staff members serve as both consultants and experts for various government ministries and institutions through different advisory and scientific committees. Additionally, the center is committed to deepening social relationships among its diverse staff to foster mutual respect, a love for work, and a commitment to public service.
The objectives of the center are as follows:To serve as a scientific reference and a significant resource for state institutions working in this field. To expand theoretical knowledge and increase practical experience for laboratory workers through specialized training courses at different levels and conducting scientific research. To enhance scientific collaboration between the center and similar institutions to elevate the competence of professionals, maintain scientific integrity, and strive to establish partnerships with international centers and universities. To provide technical and scientific consultations and prepare technical and economic feasibility studies for proposed projects for various government and private sectors. To prioritize financial allocation for the acquisition of essential equipment and materials to enhance the scientific level for the implementation of research programs and projects. To engage experts and researchers from relevant ministries and scientific institutions in the center's research projects. To train and prepare students and graduates from related fields through the organization of training courses.
The center is divided into the following departments
This department is dedicated to the diagnosis of diseases, public health, and scientific research. Its goal is to establish modern laboratories with advanced technologies that meet global standards. Additionally, it aims to develop and update existing laboratories that are currently in use. Through these modern laboratories, the department will be able to offer approximately 168 different types of medical tests, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies. This will enable medical professionals and medical analysts to consult with experts in various fields and diagnose diseases instantly and immediately when conducting tests, without the need to send samples outside of Iraq for confirmation. Furthermore, this project will contribute to providing employment opportunities for young individuals in the fields of modern science and technology in the healthcare sector. This department represents a qualitative leap in both the number and nature of medical tests required by patients and researchers.
This department employs three-dimensional CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) technology, which has made significant advancements in the field of dentistry. It is symbolized by "3D" and is realized through the use of the CBCT 3D X-ray device, which has been provided in our clinics as part of our commitment to offering the highest level of education to our dear students. This technology is utilized for the following purposes: Root Canal Treatment: CBCT imaging is used for root canal treatments, enabling more precise diagnosis and treatment planning Dental Implants: CBCT technology is employed in surgical dental implant procedures, as it is considered the best method for evaluating the condition before implant surgeries Orthodontics (Dental Braces): CBCT imaging provides three-dimensional, undistorted images of teeth. It can be used to accurately determine the position of each tooth, guide the alignment of tooth roots, and address any irregularities during orthodontic treatment planning.
The primary use of CAD/CAM in the field of dentistry is the manufacture of dental restorations for patients, typically from materials like porcelain and zirconia, all done automatically within the dental clinic during a single visit. This method ensures a high level of aesthetics and a lifelike color similar to natural teeth, while also preserving oral and dental health and preventing infections or complications, whether in the short or long term, all in a matter of minutes. Advantages of CAD/CAM in dentistry include Higher Precision: CAD/CAM technology provides a much higher level of accuracy compared to traditional methods. Single-Visit Treatment: Dental work can be completed in a single patient visit, in contrast to traditional methods that usually require three or four visits. No Need for Uncomfortable Impressions: There's no need for the use of alginate impressions, which can be uncomfortable for the patient. Cost Savings: It reduces the costs associated with outsourcing dental lab work, which can often be expensive for dentists. Enhanced Aesthetics: The final dental restorations exhibit a high level of aesthetics and lifelikeness. Overall, CAD/CAM technology in dentistry offers convenience, precision, and improved patient experience, making it an attractive option for both dental practitioners and patients.
This Laser Department is involved in various applications of laser technology in the field of dentistry. Some of its key areas of focus include: Cavity Removal: Using laser technology for the removal of dental caries (cavities) with precision and minimal discomfort to the patient. Teeth Whitening: Employing lasers for teeth whitening procedures to enhance the appearance of the patient's teeth. Bone Surgery: Utilizing lasers in oral and maxillofacial surgery for procedures related to bone, including dental implants and other surgeries. Treatment of Sensitivity: Laser treatment for dentinal hypersensitivity, helping patients with sensitive teeth. Soft Tissue Procedures: Employing lasers on soft tissues, particularly in gum-related procedures such as reshaping and periodontal treatment. Pediatric Dentistry: The application of laser technology in pediatric dentistry for various treatments and procedures. The Laser Department plays a crucial role in advancing dental treatments, offering precision, reduced discomfort, and improved patient experience in a range of dental procedures.
