The Scientific Affairs Department was established since the foundation of Al-Farahidi University in 2012. The department is linked to the Office of the Vice President for Scientific Affairs and its mission is to organize and develop various scientific and creative activities of the university and follow them continuously through coordination and communication with the deans of colleges at Al-Farahidi University. The Scientific Affairs Department is a hub for the output of Al-Farahidi University researchers from various scientific achievements, patents, and scientific publishing movement in addition to many diverse scientific aspects. This department is concerned with all scientific and research activities of the faculty (research plan, scientific outputs from solid research, patents, and authoring textbooks and aids), as well as keeping up with the development of curricula and innovations related to them, organizing conferences, seminars, and workshops during the academic year. The department also oversees the publication rules in the university's scientific journals in line with the publishing instructions approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.
The Scientific Affairs Department is concerned with scientific and cultural activities and events that serve Al-Farahidi University, its students, professors, and staff, reflecting a clear and expressive image of the university's reality, creativity, and development.
The mission that the Department of Scientific Affairs works to perform and achieve is to diligently work through all its staff to transform the scientific and cultural achievements into a message through which the recipient can see all the accomplishments made by Al-Farahidi University that serve the community's interest and contribute to its construction.
• Elevate the reality of private university education in a way that enables it to achieve its goals correctly, effectively, and creatively. • Form a positive and bright image of the role played by the university in supporting scientific research and promoting creativity and innovation. • Clarify the university's strategy and goals and introduce the public to its pioneers, reflecting the bright image of its colleges and departments. • Establish the traditions of joint research work and emphasize originality and creativity in scientific content to achieve an advanced research model in the academic environment. • Develop research methods, tools, diversify scientific sources and means. • Simulate the development in learning methods according to available capabilities so that they match in performance and quality. • Highlight creative scientific productions and make them a model to be emulated by others. • Raise the level of the university's scientific evaluation by encouraging professors and teaching staff to conduct scientific research aiming for publication in internationally recognized journals included in Scopus, Nature, Science, Thomson Reuters (Clarivate), etc.
The department undertakes the following tasks: 1. Follow up and organize the university's scientific activities in cooperation with colleges (conferences, seminars, and workshops) for the academic year. 2. Monitoring and supervising the implementation of the university teaching staff's research plan in colleges and research centers, updating planned, accomplished, and published research according to the periodic update system of the research plan approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research every 3 months. 3. Supervising the process of controlling the circulation of chemical and biological materials in relevant university colleges and unifying the inventory of chemical materials in those colleges according to the specific system for the inventory of chemical materials for chemical material stores and sending them to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research every 6 months. 4. Following up on the accomplishment of pioneering research projects by university teaching staff. 5. Preparing plans for the development and equipping of advanced devices and supplies needed by the university's scientific laboratories and following up on the receipt of those devices within the infrastructure program and coordinating between the university's colleges and centers and the ministry. 6. Organizing and monitoring the procedures for the scientific detachment of teaching staff for scientific research purposes (inside and outside Iraq). 7. Nominating university affiliates from teaching staff and employees to participate in conferences, seminars, and workshops inside or outside Iraq. 8. Following up on the update and development of curricula in university colleges within the curriculum guide prepared in the department.
The department takes on tasks that make the Scientific Division a gateway for Al-Farahidi University's cultural openness towards universities inside Iraq and Arab and international universities. Several cultural and scientific agreements have been made with some Arab and international universities to contribute to the university's development and present it in a manner befitting its status as a scientific and civilizational institution, in addition to organizing international conferences, scientific seminars, workshops, and following up on the academic promotions of the university's teaching staff.
Creating scientific and cultural communication with the world to elevate Al-Farahidi University and place it in a position that befits its status among global universities.
The university is the eye of the community, and uplifting it is a moral responsibility on everyone to bear, and there is no excuse for anyone to shirk the burden of that responsibility.
1. Openness to some reputable Iraqi, Arab, and international universities and create a kind of scientific and cultural communication with them. 2. Encourage the teaching staff to contribute to global scientific conferences for research and papers and benefit from those participations to develop constructive relations with their counterparts in various countries. 3. Benefit from workshops and courses held at various Arab and foreign universities in different specialties, especially the scientific ones, to enhance the efficiency of the teaching staff and some university employees. 4. Signing memorandums of understanding with reputable Arab and international universities to facilitate access to study opportunities, research, and transfer of modern technology in various fields. 5. Facilitate student training at local, Arab, and international universities and colleges through memorandums of understanding signed between our university and those universities. 6. Encourage teaching staff holding the title of Assistant Professor and Professor to take a one-year scientific leave at reputable international universities and facilitate their acceptance at those universities. 7. Encourage Ph.D. holders to continue post-doctoral studies in their specialty field to develop their scientific and research capabilities. 8. Hosting professors from abroad. 9. Participating in awards, competitions, and conferences inside and outside Iraq.
• Follow up on the scientific promotions of professors and lecturers at the university. • Establish cooperation and twinning agreements with local, Arab, and international universities. • Maintain the link between Al-Farahidi University and other universities through open communication channels, exchange of benefits, and joining international scientific organizations and unions. • Dispatch professors, employees, and students for training and scientific research. • Grant scientific leaves for professors outside Iraq. • Send students on study and research missions. • Loan the services of professors to and from other universities.
The tasks of the Government Program Unit include preparing and organizing all activities of the colleges and centers monthly, according to forms filled out by the Government Program Unit in the university formations. After verification and data collection, the activities are sent to the ministry at the end of each month, encouraging investment in expanding government and academic colleges. The unit includes the following activities: • Internationally published research. • Locally published research. • Research published in international repositories (Scopus, Clarivate, etc.). • Authored and translated textbooks. • Patents. • Scientific conferences. • International and local agreements.
Joint work with public universities and civil society institutions requires more contributions to enhance and uplift the scientific reputation of our university and elevate it to a higher scientific level through joint cooperation between the university's departments and divisions to leverage educational outcomes.
• Entry of Iraqi universities into global rankings. • True twinning of Iraqi universities with global universities. • Reduction of redundancy and promotion of academic atmosphere, research, university life, and elevation of scientific levels. • Establishment of private universities with global standards and quality and encouragement of parallel education. • Investment in expanding public colleges and raising their scientific and academic levels by the Iraqi and foreign private sector.
