Department of English Language

The English Language Department was established in (2012 - 2013) after the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to contribute to preparing a generation that is linguistically and culturally capable of performing their role in society and state institutions. The department became one of three departments affiliated with the College of Education, which became one of eight colleges affiliated with the university. The English Department began twinning the curricula with the College of Arts - University of Baghdad. In the academic year (2016-2017), the first batch graduated. The study changed in the year (2018-2019) from Arts to Education during the college’s transformation into a university (Al-Farahidi University). The duration of study in the department is four calendar years, during which graduate students are awarded a Bachelor’s degree in the English language.

The importance of the English language is no secret to anyone, as it is a global language spoken by millions of people all over the world. Hence the interest of scientific institutions in our country in this language, as it is needed in all different fields: education, teaching, the local market, and social communication. Language in general is a means that enables its user to master various linguistic practices, including speaking, writing, speaking, and listening.

The English Language Department aims to graduate those who are qualified and proficient in teaching skills and educational experience in various educational fields to teach and contribute to teaching English as a foreign language using modern methods and technology for education.

Message

The main mission of the department is to work with modern academic strategies by relying on the best techniques and methods in language learning around the world. This in turn will result in the best result and success in modern educational methods for the main elements of language, literature and linguistics.

Goals

1- The English Department aims to graduate students who have the ability to read well 2- Speak smoothly as it is a global language and a means of international communication for the purpose of improving linguistic reality 3- Teaching in good ways and constructive thinking, which in turn enhances social and cultural communication to build a peaceful and constructive interaction in society 4- Providing the Iraqi ministries with scientific and professional competencies in the field of specialization in the English language
