The Graduate Studies Department is considered one of the important and fundamental departments at the university. It aims to prepare and graduate scientific personnel, developing their abilities across all disciplines starting from the admission plan, application and acceptance regulations, verification of accepted names, and monitoring the affairs of graduate students until the issuance of university graduation orders.
The vision of the Graduate Studies Department is based on integrating graduate studies with the stage needs of national development plans, responding to them, and providing appropriate scientific and applied solutions to the problems faced or proposing measures and regulations for their resolution. This aligns with the country's and society's needs and global developments. The current vision of the department is to prepare graduate students competently capable of assuming the responsibility resulting from obtaining that (higher degree) within Iraq and in coordination with programs established for this purpose, aiming for the goal such as the (research missions, twinning with foreign universities) program at the level of graduate studies. Also, efforts are ongoing to keep the teaching staff updated with the latest teaching methods through the (teaching staff development) and (middle management development) programs concerning the employee, aligning with the educational and scientific advancements globally.
The mission of the Graduate Studies Department within the Research and Development Directorate is to elevate the level of graduate studies at the university, diversify them, provide various necessities, offer services and scientific and technical consultations in different state institutions and sectors, in addition to preparing regulations and controls related to its operation in terms of addressing the problems and obstacles encountered at both levels (employee and visitor), whether a student, applicant for study, or a graduate, to achieve a proper order that enables them to perform their entrusted tasks in the best way serving (the institution / ministry or other ministries) and the citizen, thereby achieving the intended purpose of its establishment.
The Graduate Studies Department aims to bring about a qualitative change in the scientific movement and higher education, elevating them and all their institutions, devices, and curricula to the level of the scientific, technical, and technological era, enabling them to truly perform their sacred mission in meeting and covering all the national and humanitarian needs and aspirations of the people, diversifying the scientific and higher studies, technical and technological specializations in universities, institutes, and research centers according to the growing projects of development and improvement in the country, and following the successive discoveries and progress.
Division Tasks: • Establishment, reopening, or suspending graduate studies in coordination with universities and relevant entities. • Verification of specialties not available in Iraq. • Update the graduate studies admission system according to regulations and train university staff on the admission system. • Approval of the graduate students' admission plan in universities, institutes, and the Iraqi Board of Medical Specialties, and monitoring its implementation. • Verification of applications received from citizens and ensuring the accuracy of the information sent by them based on the admission system provided by the universities. • Conducting statistics related to accepted and applied graduate students.
The Graduates and Certification Division specializes in monitoring, verifying, and responding to authenticity verification requests, verifying and issuing university orders for granting degrees, in addition to tracking incoming and outgoing mail and all department needs.
The division receives documents from accepted students to notify the relevant authorities and for the purpose of legalizing the documents and ensuring their issuance and reception by the graduates, then authenticating them to obtain the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Monitoring accepted students in graduate studies and documenting their grades in the first and second semesters, registering titles for theses and dissertations, monitoring extensions and defense dates, and issuing university orders for graduation.
