Department of Architectural Engineering

The Department of Architecture was established in Al-Farahidi Universitys College of Engineering Technology in 2016. It awards a Bachelors degree in Architectural Engineering upon completing a five-year program. The department graduates architectural engineers capable of achieving creative architectural accomplishments in various government sectors and excelling in both the Arab and international architectural arenas. The department adopted the curriculum of the College of Engineering Department of Architecture at the University of Baghdad and adhered to the teaching strategy of the parent university.

In my name and on behalf of all the faculty and administrative staff members in the Department of Architecture I would like to welcome you to the website of the Department of Architecture which was established as part of the College of Engineering Technology in 2016. The Department of Architecture aims to enhance the role of the architectural engineer following the completion of their studies (five years). This engineer should be capable of producing innovative and practical designs providing detailed architectural drawings and utilizing engineering applications in green architecture and sustainable construction. Our mission is to equip our graduates with the ability to engage in exemplary professional practice preparing a generation of creative architects who can think constructively to address the challenges and obstacles facing architecture especially at the local level. This is achieved by training creative architectural engineers who can excel in various fields of architectural engineering practice. We also aim to continuously enhance our curriculum to meet the needs of the local community and global technological developments. The curriculum consists of 149 accredited credit hours required for obtaining a Bachelors degree in Architecture covering all the approved knowledge areas for the field of architecture. In conclusion, I wish our dear students success and prosperity within the realms of Al-Farahidi University.

Vision

Architecture is considered both a logical science and an art with one of its most important foundations being the factors of time place, and people. Consequently architectural outcomes are defined based on indicators rooted in the environment heritage and the characteristics of local and Islamic architecture. The mission of the Department of Architecture is to prepare graduates in architecture according to scientific and intellectual principles that enable them to analyze modern architectural trends. They should be capable of critically evaluating prevailing architecture, both locally and globally and revitalizing the concept of urban heritage in Iraq. The department emphasizes the uniqueness of Iraqi architecture by developing its curriculum in both practical and theoretical aspects while emphasizing the concepts of modernity and contemporaneity.

Message

The Department of Architecture seeks to keep pace with the latest developments in the world in the field of architecture and building technology and tries hard to direct its students to apply the latest innovations in this field in order to advance the reality of Iraqi society and raise it to the ranks of developed countries in architecture. It also seeks to achieve integration between academic curricula and practical life, taking into account the requirements of the local environment in terms of the social, climatic and cultural environment and the exploitation of natural resources available in the Iraqi environment.

Goals

The Department of Architecture strives to keep up with the latest developments in the field of architecture and construction technology worldwide. It makes every effort to guide its students in applying the latest innovations in this field to contribute to the advancement of Iraqi society and elevate it to the ranks of advanced nations in the field of architecture. Furthermore the department seeks to achieve integration between the academic curriculum and practical life taking into consideration the requirements of the local environment, including social climatic, and cultural aspects. It also aims to utilize the available natural resources in the Iraqi environment.
