The Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences was established in the academic world in 2016 and only for the morning study. Students who graduated from scientific and literary studies were admitted according to the admission requirements in the faculties of physical education in Iraq. The number of faculty members is (28) professors, consisting of scientific cadres with doctorate, masters and bachelors degrees. At the beginning of the establishment, there were no sports halls, and lessons were carried out on outdoor playgrounds, and in the academic year 2018-2019, the construction of closed sports halls was completed with halls for the practice of wrestling, boxing, gymnastic, fitness, the room of the head of the department and another for the faculty. At the beginning of the establishment, it was a scientific department belonging to Al-Farahidi College. In 2018-2019, Al-Farahidi University / Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences became affiliated to the Faculty of Education, which includes departments (Arabic-English language, Physical Education and Sports Sciences) a period of study in the department (4) years. The graduate student is granted a bachelors degree in sports education. The study programs of the department were developed according to the contexts followed by the prestigious Iraqi universities to cover all theoretical and practical aspects of the field of specialisation, prepare physically and technically qualified students to lead physical education lessons in schools, and prepare qualified sports and administrative leaders to manage the sports movement.
